Special conditions pertaining to Junior Membership

1. Obligations Of Proposer And Seconder Under Article 6

Every candidate for Membership of the Club shall be proposed by one and seconded by another Member of the Club, both of whom shall have been Full Members for 3 years, shall both have known the candidate personally and shall both be willing to act as sponsors for the candidate’s correct conduct if and when the candidate becomes a Member of the Club. The application for Membership of every candidate shall be made in writing, signed by the candidate and by his proposer and seconder, and shall be in a form as determined by the Committee and as set out in the Bye-Laws.

Additionally, the Proposer and Seconder are jointly responsible for the initial introduction of the applicant to the game of Golf and to Burford Golf Club and for ensuring that at an early stage, he/she is taught the etiquette and code of behaviour expected of a Member both on and off the course.

2. Special Conditions Pertaining To Junior Membership Of Burford Golf Club

Junior Membership of Burford Golf Club carries with it considerable privileges, most notably, consideration for Full Playing Membership at age 18 (thus bypassing the long waiting lists) and if approved, progression to Full Membership without the payment of the usual adult entrance fee.

To retain Membership, Junior Members are expected to participate in golf at a level appropriate to their age and circumstances.

The General Committee insists that over the period of Membership, every Junior Member will make a reasonable level of effort:
- first, to learn to play the game and to master the associated Rules of Golf, etiquette and general behaviour expected within a Members’ Golf Club,
- then, as competence and confidence increases, to regularly take part in the programme of coaching, competitions, matches and other events arranged by the Club's Junior Organiser.

Activity will therefore be monitored by the Junior Organiser (JO). If the JO thinks, after making due allowance for an individual’s circumstances, that a Junior Member is not showing a sufficient level of interest or involvement as outlined above, then the JO shall report the Junior Member to the General Committee. In such cases, the General Committee reserves the right after due warning not to renew Membership.

You should note in particular that progression from Junior to Full Membership at age 18 is not automatic but has to be earned.

On receipt of this form, the name of the applicant is put on both the Junior and the appropriate Adult Waiting List. Thus, for those who prefer not to take on the commitments associated with Junior Membership of Burford Golf Club, the route into the Club via the normal “first come/first served” Adult waiting lists on normal Adult terms remains available.
